Dr. Michael Bouvet specializes in surgical oncology and endocrine surgery. He performs surgeries for tumors of the pancreas, thyroid, liver, esophagus, and stomach, as well as for other conditions. He is also a specialist in endocrine surgery, including surgery for thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer, minimally invasive parathyroidectomy for primary hyperparathyroidism, and laparoscopic adrenal surgery. He is a member of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncologists, and the American College of Surgeons.  Dr. Bouvet is certified by the American Board of Surgery and has been selected as one of America’s Top Surgeons by the Consumers’ Research Council of America.

Dr. Bouvet has extensive training and experience in cancer surgery. He completed advanced fellowship training in surgical oncology at the renowned M. D. Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas. Here at UCSD, Dr. Bouvet is a key surgeon and administrator at the Moores UCSD Cancer Center, where he serves as Co-Director of the Specialized Gastrointestinal Cancer Care Unit, Director of Endocrine Surgery, and Director of Surgical Services.

Dr. Bouvet specializes in endocrine and pancreatic surgery.  He routinely does surgery for thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer as well as minimally invasive surgery for hyperparathyroidism.   He has performed many whipple procedures for pancreatic cancer. 

In his research at UCSD, Dr. Bouvet conducts major investigations on the growth and spread of pancreatic cancer and the treatment of pancreatic cancer and other tumors. He is an investigator on several major National Cancer Institute-funded studies on the treatment, understanding, and monitoring of pancreatic cancer. In his recent medical publications, he has reported on new techniques for imaging pancreatic cancer and for understanding its causes and the factors that influence its growth.
